(1) Visit the Local Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze at Suyematsu Farms!
When you think of Fall, what staples come to mind? For us, we think PUMPKINS! Pumpkins are seasonal gourds that are harvested in the Fall. You can cook with them, decorate your house with them, take photos with them, and even create an entire family excursion with them! Visiting a pumpkin patch and picking out your favorite gourd is a perfect way to get out of the house with your favorite people and pick up some festive fall decor… maybe even get their perfect family photo! Here, Suyematsu Farm is a staple of Fall on Bainbridge Island. Suyematsu is a local farm that has been on Bainbridge Island since 1928 and has been opening its gates to the public for annual pumpkin picking and a corn maze for the kids!
The Pumpkin Patch opens around September 28th and be open through October or at least until they run out of pumpkins. The hours are weekdays 1:00-6:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00-5:00. When you’re there, don’t forget to take plenty of photos!
(2) Go wine tasting at your favorite local winery to find fall in a glass!
For the wine lovers here, check out one of the SEVEN wineries! The best part you read that right.. We have 7 wineries on our little island, and they’re totally worth trying. The best part about visiting a winery in the Fall is that the harvest for wine grapes begins late in the summer. Meaning if you swing by one of the wineries, you might get to see a sneak peak at the wine making process, and maybe even snag a few grapes! Whether you’re looking to enjoy wine and cheese with the girls, dance to live music, or tasting through a couple of different wines to find your new favorite, Washington wines are always a hit! Want a list of all 7 wineries and where you should start? Check out our recent blog post about all the wineries on Bainbridge Island!
Fall the flavor of Fall in a wine glass, visit Eleven Winery and try their Viognier-O. This fun new wine that is perfectly fall in every way. This is an orange wine! Never heard of it? Get this, its ORANGE WINE. Which is way prettier than a pumpkin spice latte. This Autumn bottle only appears once a year until they sell out. It has flavors of orange peels, spice, and maybe even a little caramel (sooo fall). Orange wine is a wine making style where you take the grapes of a white wine (in this case Viognier) and make it like you would a red wine. Meaning there is contact with the skins of the grape giving it a bolder flavor and color like a red… but you drink it chilled. This wine is like fresh and crisp fall air in a glass! Want to learn more about this wine? Ask one of their tasting room staff for details on this unique wine naming process!
