William C. Fletcher claimed land in the area in 1869, giving the bay its name. Locals once called it Greek George’s Bay. Until the 1930s, a ferry operated from the southwest edge of Fletcher Bay, offering service to Brownsville before the Agate Pass Bridge was built.
